Record 2 from 1682
Summary
This record provides information on Indian weavers’ independent working practices.
Record Excerpt
[the spinners took their product to local markets for sale] to weavers , and not to merchants for the weaving of cloth. Thus merchants themselves are not involved with either yarn or cotton, but only contract with the weavers for cloth according to musters, for which cash must frequently be furnished in advance.
